Sunken Gardens has been an attraction in St Pete since 1935.  Prior to that a plumber, George Turner, drained a shallow lake on his property to grow his garden.  By 1924 the garden was attracting visitors.  Grove heaters were brought in to heat the palms and other cold sensitive tropical plants during the winter.  In 1999 the Turner family sold the property to the city of St Pete.  The gardens has many palm trees, bird-of-paradise, bouganvillas, crotons, orchids, and ferns.  Weddings are held frequently at the gardens.
